MAXQDA Analysis (Qual)
Purpose
Identify themes and patterns in experience through organizing, coding, sorting, and filtering data from challenge-seeking methods. MAXQDA is used for analysis in projects with more than 25 participants and/or when the differences between participant types are complex.

Prep
- Project Lead creates new MAXQDA project

Import all interviews and surveys (qualitative data only)

Assign demographic fields as variables
- Assign documents by creating a document set for each analyzer

- Project Lead initiates team project & starts cycle 1
- In the TeamCloud tab, click Upload Project for Team (Start Cycle 1).
- Follow prompts to invite analyzers to the project.
- Analyzers join the project by clicking the confirmation button in the invitation email.
- Download and open the project:
- The MAXQDA welcome screen will show the available projects divided into two areas:
- In the My Projects tab, you will see the list of your local MAXQDA projects
- In the Team Projects tab, you can find all TeamCloud projects where you either
- To access your team projects, you need to be logged in.

Coding, Round 1
- Activate your assigned document set.
- Code each Qualtrics question by adding subcodes below the question code.
- Skip “About You” and “Energy”
- Subcodes should describe the nuance included in each response

Periodically (once every few hours), review your subcodes and merge or rename them as appropriate.

Upload to Team Cloud by clicking Upload Project for Team Lead in the TeamCloud tab at the top of the menu.
- At the end of Round 1, you should have subcodes below each question code for your assigned documents.

Mid-analysis Checkpoint

Lead downloads all analyzer data into the master project and merges like subcodes beneath each question code.

Analyzers and Lead discuss emerging themes. A theme is considered saturated it is mentioned in 10% of more of the documents.

Lead creates a QTT worksheet for each theme and assigns each worksheet to an analyzer
- At this time, the Lead may autocode all documents with the Workplace dictionary.

Lead uploads the project to Team Cloud and shares the worksheet assignments.
Coding, Round 2

Analyzers add relevant codes and segments to their assigned worksheets.

Summarize the insights about the worksheet topic in the Insights text box at the bottom of the sheet.
