MAXQDA Analysis (Qual)

Purpose

The purpose of qualitative analysis in a DORIS research project is to identifyIdentify themes and patterns in experience through organizing, coding, sorting, and sorting/filtering data from stakeholderchallenge-seeking interviews.methods. MAXQDA is used for analysis in projects with more than 25 participants and/or when the differences between participant types are complex.

Prep

  1. Project Lead creates new MAXQDA analysisproject -

    • Import all interviews and surveys (qualitative data only)

    • Assign demographic fields as variables

    • Assign documents by creating a document set for largeeach setsanalyzer
  2. Project Lead initiates team project & starts cycle 1

    MAXQDA Qualitative Analysis

    Openingopen the File and Setting up the Maxqda Workspace
    1. Open Maxqda file - Saved in Box in the Project Folder (path: /Projects /Project Name /Challenge Defining /Analysis and Synthesis /Qualitative Analysis /Maxqda Files)
    2. Once Maxqda file opens, ensure that the view is showing all 4 viewing windows: Document System, Code System, Overview of Coded Segments, and Retrieved Segments. <link to section on full analysis process book>
    3. Activate All Documents in the Document System Window.
    4. Activate one code at a time, prioritizing the codes: Fulfilling, Challenging, RoleSpace, Space Likes/Dislikes, ToolsBetterWork, ConnectionDefinition, InclusiveDefinition, AnythingElse.project:

    CodingCoding, Round 1
    1. AddActivate codesyour withinassigned document set.
    2. Code each Qualtrics question by adding subcodes below the activatedquestion code. Sub-codes should show the top themes present in the initial code

    3. Auto-code larger

      • Auto-codingthem savesas time by applying a code to all retrieved segments containing the keywords identified.

    6. At the end of Round 1, you should have subcodes below each question code for your assigned documents.

    Mid-analysis Checkpoint

    1. Lead downloads all analyzer data into the master project and merges like subcodes beneath each question code.

    2. Analyzers and Lead discuss emerging themes. A theme is considered saturated it is mentioned in 10% of more of the documents. 

    3. Lead creates a QTT worksheet for each theme and assigns each worksheet to an analyzer

    4. At this time, the Lead may autocode all documents with the Workplace dictionary.

    5. Lead uploads the project to Team Cloud and shares the worksheet assignments.

    Coding, Round 2

    1. Analyzers add relevant codes and segments to their assigned worksheets.

    2. Summarize the insights about the worksheet topic in the Insights text box at the bottom of the sheet.

    3. Upload to Team Cloud by clicking Upload Project for Team Lead in the TeamCloud tab at the top of the menu.
