Prepare Usability data

Purpose

Prepares data collected from usability study for analysis

VP Ops, Research Associate, or Data Scientist/Analyst

Interdependencies

The usability study has concluded and all data is synced/uploaded.

Directions
Step 1 - Download Data from Vantage Space + Save to Box
  1. Download the raw data from Vantage Space. (View instructions on Scribe.)
    1. Navigate to https://www.vantagespace.com/ 
    2. Click "My Account" and log in with doris@dorisresearch.com
    3. Select the project in the Organization drop-down.
    4. If the study is in progress, select "Live Studies". If data collection is complete,
      select "Completed Studies."
    5. Click "View Progress" from the hamburger menu
    6. Click "WORKSPACES"
    7. Click "EXPORTS"
    8. Click "Create New Export"
    9. Enter Title "[Date] - [Client Project] - Usability Raw VS Data"
    10. Report Settings
      1. Format XLSX
      2. Include Notes? = YES
      3. Include Missed Data = YES
    11. Workspace Filters
      1. All
    12. Date and Time Filters
      1. All
    13. Data Options
      1. Check - Treat all "Signs of Life" data as "Occupied"
      2. Check - Group all non-occupied statuses as "Unoccupied"
    14. Press Create Study Export
  2. It will take a few minutes for Vantage Space to create the report.
  3. Once it is available, press Download.
  4. Save the file to the project file in Box
    1. Folder = "3 - Data Collection"
      1. Subfolder = Usability Raw Data
Step 2 - Clean Data in Excel in Preparation for Analysis
  1. Open Raw Dataset from Box in Excel (View instructions on Scribe.)
  2. Box / 2 - Projects/ [CLIENT PROJECT] /3 - Data Collection / Usability Raw Data
  3. Create People variable
    1. Add column to the right
    2. Name the column "People"
      1. The values of this column = "Number of People" without the 0's
  4. Create Occupied variable
    1. Add column to right
    2. Name the column "Occupied"
      1. This variable is populated with 1's and 0's.

        1. It is 0 if Status = "Missed", "Unoccupied", "Vacant", "Unobservable"
        2. It is 1 if Status = "Occupied" or "Signs of Life" 
  5. Delete any rows that were recorded on the training day.

    1. Identify on the project calendar, the date of usability training.
    2. Filter the dataset for the Timestamp that starts with that date [YYYY-MM-DD ...]
    3. To Delete
      1. Highlight all the training day rows
      2. Right-click
      3. Press Delete
  6. Create Weekday variable
    1. Add column to right
    2. Name the column "Weekday"
      1. Filter by each timestamp date (one-by-one)
      2. Enter the day of the week "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"
      3. Copy and paste down the column for that date
        1. Do this for each of the 10 dates for the usability study
        2. ** Each point should have a day and time associated with it.
  7. Save the dataset with the filename "[Client] Usability Data Raw FINAL"
