About Interviews

Interviews are a versatile tool for gaining in-depth, people-centered insights in research.

We think interviews are more effective than surveys.

At DORIS, we conduct interviews to better understand the needs, behaviors, motivations, and challenges of the people we interview. Direct conversations allow us to get into the details that surveys might miss. Interviews also allow people to share their thoughts in their own words, giving us rich, qualitative data that helps us align our insights with what’s really happening on the ground.

We want to talk to everyone.

Whenever possible, we prefer to talk directly to the people facing challenges instead of letting leaders speak for them. People deal with everyday issues that leaders might not be fully aware of. By engaging directly, we avoid making assumptions, show that we value their input, and aim for practical and strategic solutions. This approach adds to what leaders think, giving us a fuller picture of what’s really needed.

We want to have one-on-one conversations.

In one-on-one chats, people often feel more at ease sharing honest and detailed information without the pressure of a group setting. This format lets us ask personalized follow-up questions, helping us dive deeper into each person’s unique perspective. Plus, it removes group dynamics that can skew responses, like one person dominating the conversation or everyone just going along with the crowd. That way, we get richer, more nuanced insights that reflect each participant's experiences.
