Prep for Analysis

Conduct Analysis Strategy Meeting

This meeting initiates the analysis/synthesis part of the DORIS process The purpose of the meeting is to define:

  1. Timeline: How long, and how many hours we have to complete analysis.
  2. Roles: Who will do what portions of the analysis.
  3. Next Steps - Schedule the Synthesis Meeting, which solidifies the deadline for completing individual analysis.

The Ops Manager is responsible for scheduling/leading the meeting and invites the Project Lead and any other members of the ops team who will be involved in the analysis. This meeting can be scheduled as soon as data collection has ended or is about to end.

Meeting Process
  1. The Ops Manager opens the Project Charter for the project and navigates to the Analysis/Synthesis section asking questions about the A/S process. Ops team members answer the questions, discussing the best methods considering any relevant information. (i.e. Overall project load, timelines, schedules/travel/PTO, etc)
  2. The Ops Manager transcribes the chosen methods, established timeline, and data/role delegation into the Project Charter document.
  3. The Ops Manager schedules the Synthesis Meeting, while everyone is there to confirm calendars.
  4. At the end of the meeting, all team members are clear on their next steps and deadline for analysis.

Questions to answer in this meeting:

    • When does analysis need to be done? (Analysis ends at the start of the Synthesis Meeting)
    • How much time should be spent? (Considering hours left, general project load, priorities, availability, etc)
    • Who is doing what? (Even for small data sets, it important to get 2 sets of eyes on any given set)
    • Which methods/tools will be used? (Maxqda, Sheets, Mural, etc)
  • Meeting Outcomes:
    • Schedule the Synthesis Meeting
    • Define roles, methods, and next steps with team

Prepare interview data

For Maxqda analysis:

  1. Open CLEANED data set (if there is not one, you will have to go to qualtrics, export the data, then save as with a .xlsx)
  2. Delete all columns up to the "fulfilling" question.
  3. Add two columns to the far left, titling the first, "Document Group," and the second, "Document Name."
  4. The document group column will be the same for the whole set. (Ex. Project-typeofdata, ITCC-Interview) Type in the first cell and copy for all cells in that column.
  5. The document name will be a unique code for each row. Label the first cell: Project-XX (ITCC-01), then drag down to apply to the rest of the column.
  6. For maxqda, the headers will become the code that organizes questions, make sure that those codes are representative of the data. For example, some headers may read, "Space_Dislike_1" where the next row down tells us that it is about individual workstations, so you would want to change, "Space_Dislike_1" to "Dislike_Individual Workstation."
  7. Ensure that all headers are updated and SaveAs.

Interview data is ready to execute analysis when the spreadsheet is Saved As and exported as an .xls file in the Box Folder: /Projects /Challenge Defining /Qualitative Analysis
